These are the worst carpets to have. Wet a white lint free cloth wringing out excess moisture. Matted carpet dents occur beneath heavy furnishing. For more stubborn carpet fibers scrap the carpet with the edge of a spoon or comb it with a fork to fluff it more.

If matting occurs on olefin carpet it is permanent and a sign that it is time to replace the carpet. This works really well for high traffic areas. Sometimes only small dents appear beneath furniture legs while heavy legless furniture can mat a large area of carpet. It can also happen if you tend to move these quite often.

Place the cloth atop the matted area then iron the cloth gently to fluff up the matted carpet fibers. They mat down in less than a year and can never be revived. Try to pick up the fibers with a coin or a spoon afterward. Carpets can get matted down for a few other reasons other than being old.

Your carpet can get matted down if heavy furniture stays in one place for a bit too long. Remove the cloth from the area being careful not to burn yourself. Apply the towel and heat it again if necessary. A clothes iron can also be used to revive a matted area of the carpet.

While you are rearranging your room or moving your furniture to prevent flat spots vacuum the area under your furniture to keep the carpet pile fluffed up and looking new. Take a hair dryer blow it on the indentation and use a comb to pick the fibers back up. While you can t really do anything about these things it s better to know about these. We do not recommend olefin for high traffic areas in a home.
